Dude Yo, I've Been Tagged

I got tagged by Andi from The Thinks I Think. What does that mean? I'll tell you:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

I'm excited. You should be too.

#1 I am allergic to cold. Yes, allergic. On a trip to Boston during high school, I realized my virgin pina colada was making my hands swell up and itch. Later that summer on my back deck, I realized the drink I was holding between my knees was giving me big red itchy blotches on my skin. I finally went to a doctor and was diagnosed with cold-induced hives. I was told it could last up to 10 years. I lived in MAINE. It was very cold 8 months out of the year.

It was hard to eat cold foods, especially ice cream. My family always has at least 16 gallons of ice cream in the freezer. I was practically raised on the stuff. Ben & Jerry's was up the street from my house. Literally. It was horrible. Being a local I got a discount, and I couldn't even enjoy it properly!! It's been about 6 years since then, and I'm much better. I can be outside in winter without covering all my skin with scarves, hoods, sleeves, mittens, etc. I used to break out after a few minutes exposure to cold air, but now I'm more "normal." My ears still get itchy, but not nearly as bad as they used to. I had to take pills for a couple of years to reduce the breakouts. Now I can eat ice cream for dinner if I want and it doesn't make my tongue swell anymore.

#2 I have an obsession with Canada. Ever since I was little and saw the "Anne of Green Gables" movies. And then I actually went to Prince Edward Island (where it takes place) and fell in love with it even more. And then I watched the movies 6 zillion more times and have read all 8 books twice since 2005. And then I learned some French in college (which I've pretty much neglected the last year) and decided I should go to French Quebec and learn some Quebecois slang. So we'll see if Kev and I ever make it that far North. My friend Kara from work is Canadian-newly-American and I just love her more for that fact.

#3 Kev and I pretty much have names for all our children picked out. But we don't want kids for like... a few more years. We're talking first and middle names, people. Is that sick? We're not even sure yet how many we want to have but we've got them all covered. No, I will not tell you what they are. I'm paranoid someone will "steal" my combos.

#4 I love love love to sing. But I refuse to sing just in front of Kev. If he's in the audience, I'm totally cool with that. But I will not practice my songs for him. I'll sing my heart out with Nikki (my fabulous former room mate who often plays the piano for me) and make mistakes in front of her, but I just can't do it in front of Kev. I told him tonight that it's because he's very musical himself and I don't want him to compare me to other musical people (he earns bonus points for responding that yeah, he's musical, but when he compares people he actually compares them to me. Awww, sweet).

#5 Last night I realized something- I should have majored in design. Interior design is a calling I missed. For a fleeting moment I considered going back to school to get a degree in design. Thankfully, Kev told me if I really wanted to get some education in design (beyond HGTV that is) I should take classes at the Applied Technology College. Phew. Dodged a bullet on that one. Almost registered for classes at Weber again!!

But seriously, I am obsessed with designing. Every time I go into friends' homes I reconfigure their furniture in my brain to maximize space and encourage better traffic flow. The irony is that I roomed with two Interior Design majors my Sophomore and Junior years in college. For two years!! And for some reason I wasn't inspired. We stayed up all night watching design shows on TLC, but I just didn't get the hint that my obsession could have turned into a career. Duh.

There you have it. 5 fun facts. Now for the tagging:

Jess from The Mundane Adventures of Miss Jess
Jessica from I Am The Movie
Kelly from The World Through My Eyes
Kim from Kimba

  1. Hello from Canada! Although I'm not in PEI, unfortunately. I'm ashamed to admit I've never even been to PEI (the closest I've gotten is Nova Scotia), but I would love to go someday.

Thanks so much for taking the challenge. I enjoyed learning more about you! I'm not sure I could live with an allergy to cold (I live in a cold climate too), but I could definitely live without ice cream!

  2. Hi, I got tagged by Andi too. I love how you write. I feel a little like I'm reading my own blog. Funny, eh? Well, I LOVED making up fun combination names for my unborn children. My daughter turned out to be Jessica but my favorite made up name for her was Hannah Anna Granek. Then (just for her initials:) Hannah Olivia Granek. Like em? You can stop by my blog if you want. I loved your post about being thankful for not being killed.

  3. Hello...I found you from Kelly's blog. I have twin girls and they are both allergic to the cold. We discovered this when they were about three and were playing in a cooler full of ice. It is so sad because living in Utah, we love the snow! I hope they grow out of it. THe Pediatrician told us it was called Cold Urticaria (or something like that!)
