What's My Age Again?

I was walking Maddie the other evening and had a lovely encounter with adolescent boys. Always a pleasure.

At least one of them lives on my street. The rest are his homies. One of whom is probably the boy who rode his bike into the street while looking at the sky one day. Not a big deal except he chose to look up at the sky and ride into the street at the exact same moment I was turning onto our street. Good thing my brakes work.

Anyway, as I approached these boys with Maddie, one of them started flinging an elasticized ID badge in Maddie's direction. He didn't stop as I got closer. They didn't scoot off the sidewalk for me and Maddie to walk by either. So I just walked straight at them. Bungee boy kept flinging the badge towards Maddie's head, so I told him "If you don't stop harassing my dog, she will bite you."

The homies cleared a path for us and started whispering amongst themselves. When I passed, I heard one of them say, "She better not bite me, girlfriend."

Whoa. Hold up.

I stopped Maddie and turned back to the homies.

"Do you have something you need to discuss with me?" I asked them en masse.

At that, they all stopped talking and a couple of them pointed to the boy who'd made the "girlfriend" remark.

I didn't think so.

  1. AWESOME! I won't have much courage to say anything, but maybe Rosie would make it clear to them not to mess with us. She has a habit of barking at boys...I don't mind it too much.
