(Hopefully) Leavin' On A Jet Plane

Did I mention my little tiny baby brother is getting married? Yuppers. And it seems like the wedding is in about 3 days. At least, that's what the price of plane tickets reflects.

Here's the dilemma. I need to find a way to get three people, who currently live in Utah, to Maine. But that's not all. I need to find a way to get those three people to Maine for less than $500 each. Okay, ideally, less than $450 each. Because seriously, that's ridiculously expensive. Especially since I just paid in full for my pre-licensing course. And that was the cost of a plane ticket.

Anyway. Not only do we have to get to Maine, but we have to make sure we give ourselves wiggle room so that when we are delayed in an airport in the Midwest because of 1 gabillion snowstorms, we won't miss the wedding, which is on January 2nd. Make sense? Which means I have no choice but to fly out on December 31st at the latest. Which is a holiday. A winter holiday. Which makes flights that much more expensive. And after doing the math, flying out earlier than that doesn't really save money because that just means more days off work. Which means smaller paycheck.

I've been up in the wee hours of the morning attempting to find better prices, but that hasn't worked. I've tried setting my own price and getting alerts, but that hasn't worked. I've tried flapping my arms like wings to get there myself, but that hasn't worked either.

Advice? Connections you could share? Hook ups you could give? Time's a-wastin' and I'm quickly exhausting my resources.

  1. whaaaaat? are you talking about jeshua?? wow. ok anyways, i got our tickets on priceline doing the name your own price. you just have to keep doing it until it gets close. or, hotwire is really good too. good luck. i know how frustrating it is, i did that for like 3 weeks!

  2. Ok, here are my plane ticket secrets, use them wisely.

First, always look on tuesday night or wednesdays, tickets are always cheaper on those days. Try flying into a bigger airport and renting a car to get to where you need to go, sometimes the hundreds of dollars saved and then split on a rental car make that a very good idea.

Use yahoo,, hotwire, and airline websites against each other. If one site has it for 625 and another for 600, watch until wednesday and the cheap one gets even cheaper.

while it is hard, if you can bare to wait til it gets a little closer, ticket prices actually do go down because they are trying to rid of all of those extra tickets. check for 4 tickets and then for 1 ticket at a time. check over night flights, flights out on the 31st at night are cheaper than others because no one wants to fly them because they miss new years, so keep watching that one.

I have a few others, but those are the big ones. watch for those and if you need more tips, just let me know. Where are you flying into? I will see if I can work some of my magic for you.

  3. Sign up for alerts from Southwest's Ding program. It's kind of a shot in the dark, but Brian and I have found some killer deals! Good luck!

  4. Try has been a life saver for all those last minute flights. Good Luck.

  5. Thanks for all the advice ladies, I really appreciate it. I've been diligently looking for flights that technically suck (red eye, long layovers, different airports, etc) and I'll keep up the hunt since those are bound to be cheaper.

Thanks for stopping by!
