Gym Class

I had an all-day PiYo certification on Saturday. Which means I couldn't walk on Sunday.

Michelle, the instructor, made sure that we worked out according to levels 1 through 10 of the PiYo course created by Powder Blue. It was a wee bit intense. I was doing lunges to Warriors to arabesques and back to lunges. I liked it.

I won't do such hardcore workouts in the classes I'll soon be teaching, but it's great to have background knowledge of more advanced routines and poses so that if the opportunity arises for me to teach additional classes I won't be too wimpy. Michelle described PiYo as "Yoga for hyper people," and the way she taught it definitely fits that title. It's not exactly my taste, but again, the experience and the resources are invaluable regardless of how I choose to incorporate it into my teaching style. I was really surprised to find that I actually like some of the songs on the CD we were given for participating. It's supposed to be the "soundtrack" for the first level of PiYo. I chopped it up in iTunes and picked some songs that didn't drive me crazy. They're now complemented by David Leon's Piano Tribute to Pink Floyd. I'm hoping that some of the older participants in my classes will recognize the Pink Floyd and love it as much as I do. I know that I get excited when Kathi creates a new playlist for her Yoga classes on Monday nights at WSU (8:30 in the Swenson gym, room 19).

I'm just so happy to be certified. I set this goal in June and here I am in November, ready to go. How cool is that?

  1. Love the PiYo post! I'm so excited for you that you're teaching soon! I'm sure they'll love your music. i wish i was better at changing up the music for my classes - they probably are ready to strangle me. Change is always good and keeps people coming.

  3. Tha tis so cool! My mom-in-law is a faithful Yoga goer. She goes to some cute little place on Main Street in Bountiful. I go with her when I'm in town and love it. It's wonderful. I would love to bring my mother in law to one of your classes!
