RIP Diba Boots

Abby asked how exactly a pair of boots can be ruined by a vacuum. Well... I couldn't quite believe it myself. But I'll do my best to explain.

I was vacuuming last night (because I'm cool and clean on Friday night) and decided to be a little lazy and I didn't pick up every pair of shoes that was hanging out on the floor. My boots are kind of stored under my nightstand, so their soles are against the wall and just the tops poke out from underneath. I've vacuumed like this before. Never had a problem. Until last night.

Kev recently bought a really nice new vacuum for us, and it can seriously suck. My poor brown boots didn't even see it coming. I couldn't even comprehend what was happening when I saw the top of one boot get pulled into the vacuum. It was sucked in about 2 inches. Just being ravaged by the rotating brushes inside the vacuum. I couldn't stop it soon enough. *SOB*

Here's what they look like now:

The leather has been eaten off the boot. I know it may not seem like a big deal, but to me it is. I get really upset when I ruin things. Maddie has never chewed on a shoe, so they've been safe from mangling and mauling. Until the new vacuum arrived. I try so hard to take good care of my nice things, and even though these boots were probably only $30 (I know I bought them with either a gift card to DSW or with coupons, so they were practically free considering their retail price!) I still cherish them. Yes, CHERISH.

Last time I went to DSW, I saw that Diba had come out with a new boot. Since I already had a pair of boots in black and brown, I knew I didn't need to invest in a third pair. But, now that I've murdered my brown boots (that I seriously wear all the time. I wore them this week to Jeff's induction ceremony!) I may have to look into using my DSW coupons and buy this pair in brown. Check them out in white to see the detail.

So, although I am traumatized, some good may come of this. I get to go to DSW again in the near future.

  1. I. Just. Can't. Resist.

    That really sucks!

  2. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity. I had to see it to believe it. And hey, if you're going to throw those puppies out, send 'em to me. I'll wear 'em proudly. Sucked off leather and all.
P.S. Where do you find coupons for DSW, pray tell?

  3. Andi- I use that joke all the time. The vacuums we let students borrow at my office really don't work, so I find myself saying "they suck" all the time!!

Abby- If you sign up online for the free rewards membership with, then every time you make a purchase, whether large or small, you gain points. So many points = coupon!! They also send you emails with discounts for online shopping only, or updates about which days will give you triple points if you buy in person or online. What's nice is that you can usually double up coupons/discounts or even let someone else use your coupon and you'll still get the points. So if you don't "need" anything and don't want to waste the coupon, you can give it to someone else and their purchase will rack up points in your account.

    The end.

  4. Liv,
I'm so sorry about those boots. Maybe some leather polish will help. :)

Thanks for stopping by!
