I've been thinking a lot about the Nielsons lately. For those of you who are unfamiliar with their story, just check out Courtney's blog: C jane Enjoy It. Courtney is one of Stephanie Nielson's sisters and has been chronicling Nie's progress and how their family is doing as a whole (Nielsons and Clarks combined). In sum, both Stephanie and Christian were involved in a private plane crash in mid-August. Both sustained severe burns but managed to survive. Their pilot passed away the day after the crash.

Thankfully, there's great news as of late. Christian is out of the burn unit and undergoing physical therapy while now living with his parents. This weekend Nie spoke from her hospital bed for the first time in nearly 3 months. She's regaining awareness regarding where she is and how long she's been "sleeping." It breaks my heart. She'll soon realize that life has been going on without her, and she has to catch up on so much.

Nie has amazing strength, which you can witness via her blog, The NieNie Dialogues. Her faith and the support of her immediate and extended family will buoy Nie up whenever she feels the full weight of this trial on her shoulders.

If you'd like to offer assistance, I encourage you to offer prayer on their behalf. Also, there are so many options for offering financial assistance. You may donate directly via the PayPal link on my sidebar; you may purchase something in one of the many NieNie auctions being hosted on the web; and you may also purchase items like this from Kelly's Etsy shop. All proceeds will benefit Nie's recovery.

I encourage you to check out Courtney's and Nie's blogs. Almost every time I check C jane I find myself in tears. Courtney never fails to offer a piece of her testimony to her readers and it reminds me to put my own life into perspective and overcome my trials with a joyful heart. Nie's blog posts are being recycled by her family while Nie's in recovery and it's been lovely to have reader favorites re-posted in her absence.

This family makes me want to be a better person and I hope you'll be able to help them out just a little, whether through prayers or tangible donations. It makes you feel good, I promise!

  1. I love them. They have both changes my life. I can stay on their blogs for days and days. There is so much to learn from both of these women. I hope other people will at least offer a prayer on their behalf.

  2. Oh Liv... I too am constantly thinking of this sweet + wonderful family. I had read cjane's blog a few times before the accident, somehow never stumbling on to the nienie dialogs. now, every single day i'm on both blogs. i am so inspired by stephanie + courtney. how is it that this family could be so very splendid? their words, their photos, their lives... everyday i want to be more like them.

ah, i'm rambling now. but how i love both these woman and their families, that i have never (and probably will never) meet. i'm truly touched.

and i MUST HAVE that necklace!! :D
(not to mention a nie tee! weee, they are on sale again! will be buying one today!) hip hip.

  3. oh, and yes. i too, cry pretty much every single time i ready cjane's blog.

  4. Dude, we can totally meet them. Let's cruise down to Provo and leave presents on Courtney's doorstep.

Just kidding. I hate going to Provo. I think I'll just donate through PayPal again. That'd probably be less creepy too.

  5. I have read their story and been touched by it. I hope they both make good recoveries. I'm glad to hear that they are both making progress.

  6. I'm right there with you, Liv. Every time my mom and I talk on the phone we end up talking about the Neilson's. I hope for them and think about them every day.
Kim gave me that necklace for my birthday, and I haven't taken it off since. Today at school I got some great compliments on it. EVERYBODY GET ONE!

  7. Abs-
I just found out I'm required to buy a $20 gift for an exchange at my new job (Yea for Pilates!) so I'm buying the pendant. I figure I can include a card and explain that while it may seem like she was gypped out of a great $20 gift, this one benefits not only her, but the burn victims as well. Can't argue with that on Christmas!!

Thanks for stopping by!
