Excellent News

Ha, just kidding. But I gotchya, didn't I?

Thankfully, yesterday is over. It didn't get much better after the morning debacle.

Kev called me around 11:45 to tell me that Maddie was refusing to eat again, and that she wasn't getting all her business done outside... if you know what I mean.

He had to leave for work that very minute, and that left it up to me to figure out how to get Maddie to the vet sometime during the day. We're going on two weeks of this behavior and it's too nerve-wracking to keep trying to remedy it on our own.

I was able to leave work about half an hour early, drive all the way home, and then all the way back to my work neighborhood. Maddie's vet is across the street from my office. Traffic is fun!

Anyway, 1.5 hours and $145 later, I can at least rest assured that Maddie doesn't have pancreatitis or something wrong in her kidneys. What is wrong, you ask? The vet doesn't know. Little-miss-"I-don't-want-to-eat" didn't have anything in her to give the vet a sample. Even after two, YES TWO, exams of her little bum, the vet couldn't get anything. Nada. Zilch.

Kev's on poop patrol Thursday since he doesn't have to work and will have time to bring in a fresh sample to the vet. Lucky.

In the meantime, I have to somehow squirt 5 ccs of doggie pepto bismol into Maddie's mouth at least twice a day for a week.

Last night, half of it ended up on her chin, but she ate her entire dinner so I don't care. The vet hypothesizes that maybe Maddie's developed an allergy or a parasite and that causes her to refuse food and have an upset stomach. There's no swelling of her abdomen and no trauma that the vet could detect. I'll tell ya what was traumatizing-- having to hold Maddie still while she yelped during the exam. I actually cried because I felt so badly for her. No surprise there though since I cry during TV commercials.

Anyway, that's the lowdown on Miss Maddie. And if any of you are wondering why you're not getting any gifts from me this year, you can blame it on the two vet visits in three months' time. I got nothing left to spare.

Merry Christmas!!

  1. ouch!! Vets are mean. I hope she doesn't charge you for bringing in the poop sample.

  2. I am so sorry! The poor thing. I understand all too well! Rosie broke her toe last spring! She started limping and was obviously in pain and it all happend on a Sunday morning. I couldn't wait until Monday, so we ended up going to the vet that afternoon, which also means we paid a lovely $350 extra!!! And then she decided to rip off her cast! And then she got an eye infection from digging holes in the backyard! But, thankfully, she has been healthy and whole for most of the year. Mayeb next year will be better...

  3. *sigh* I think it's $20 to get the tests done later this week.

    Stupid parasites.

Thanks for stopping by!
