Dinner and a movie and the ones that got away.

Last night after the beach, the family headed south to Portland for a night on the town. We hit up the Great Wall Chinese buffet and stuffed our tummies full of crab wantons, lo mien, shrimp, scallops, ribs... you get the idea. I couldn't imagine having room to snack on Twizzlers, Junior Mints and M&Ms at the movie, but I found a way.

We headed to Westbrook for a showing of Julie and Julia, which was delightful. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but in a good way. Meryl Streep was amazing as Julia Child. Amazing. So bouncy and awkward and tall. She had the voice down pat too. I've been a fan of Amy Adams since Enchanted, and I'm always happy to see her in more grown-up roles since then. I loved her as a disgruntled government employee who uses blogging and cooking as a way to rise above it all.

The twist for me is at the end. Real life definitely doesn't turn out like a fairytale. Speaking of real life endings--

Before the movie, we had some time to visit DSW and browse. I told myself I wouldn't buy any more shoes, and I stuck to it. I tried on these fabulous white leather Guess heels and put them back. They were still too expensive for my taste, even though they fit like a dream and I don't own a pair of white heels. Technically, I needed them to complete my collection. But I refrained. Who buys three pairs of shoes in six days? Not me. At least, not this time around.

Kev was so proud of me when I called him that night and told him I didn't buy anything. He never thinks it's possible for me to leave DSW empty-handed.

I can!
