You've had a birthday, shout hoo-ray! We want to sing to you today!

The plan was to meet at Seth's in the late evening on the Tuesday before his birthday. My other brother, Jeshua, and his wife Julia were scheduled to meet with Seth to purchase a car he'd recently acquired. Kev and I were supposed to randomly show up and yell "surprise" during the transaction.

On Saturday I got Seth's present and the cupcake fixins. I was set to make the treats Monday night and then bring them to Seth's as a surprise on Tuesday. That was until I heard from Jeshua that Seth would actually be working in MY neck of the woods on Tuesday. So late on Sunday night we rescheduled for Monday.

That's why I had to get up and start making cupcakes at 6:20 Monday morning.

I worked until 5 at the new office and then jetted across the street to teach Pilates. Like I already mentioned, class was great. Afterward I jetted home to the Pink House and got things ready for the drive to Seth's.

Almost as soon as I got off the exit in Sandy, Seth called me. It has often happened that he sees me and Kev driving to his house when we've come down to visit him. So he'll call and act like a creeper and describe what we're wearing. But this time I was not excited to see an incoming call from him when we were attempting to stealthily arrive on his doorstep with birthday treats.

I told him we were just heading to Lowe's (which we were... it's just that we were going to the Lowe's a few hundred yards from his house) and made arrangements to visit with him in Ogden on Tuesday night.

That's when Seth told me he was heading to Wal-Mart, which is right next door to Lowe's. I watched him drive by me THREE TIMES. I was a wreck. I didn't want to ruin the surprise Jeshua had arranged.

I didn't. Kev, Maddie, Jeshua, Julia and I arrived at Seth's house before he finished his errand at Wal-Mart. We all stood in his kitchen holding unlit cupcakes while Jeshua (who is the worst lookout ever) was the lookout.

The look on Seth's face when he saw us standing in his house with cupcakes in hand was priceless. He was so thrilled to come home and find us there. I was so happy to see his reaction. The dogs were running around madly in the dark but there we were, singing a horrible rendition of "Happy Birthday" with chocolate chocolate-cupcakes (I forgot the peppermint sprinkles!).

Kev and I stayed until midnight so he could help Seth with mudding. It was part of our gift to him (my part was sitting on my butt feeling good about the first season of "Flight of the Conchords" I'd bought for Seth) for his birthday.

Although it was a quick visit with my family, I still enjoyed it. I regretted it when I had to get up for work the next morning with only a few hours of sleep under my belt, but now that I'm rested again, I take back that part about regretting it.

Family, I love you :)
