I'm just as clever as Macaulay Culkin when left home alone.

When I leave the house in the mornings, I like to open up some of the curtains so my little green plant babies can get some sunlight throughout the day. Also, I like to let the sun shine on Kev's face while he's sleeping in. Take that!

This morning, like any other, I opened the first layer of curtains in the front room as I headed out the door. BAM. Huge spider. Right there, in my face. Awesome.

I practically fell over from surprise. Thankfully, the giant arachnid stayed still. I didn't have a lot of time to develop a plan of attack. I twittered the scene, naturally, and then collected my thoughts. Much to my delight, the night before I left my soda cup on the coffee table in the front room. I popped the lid off and used it to scoop the ginormous spider into the melted ice. Lid went right back on so I could pretend I wasn't drowning him. Just... taking him for a walk. In a cup.

Cup and spider went with me to the garbage can in the driveway and I found myself successfully on my way to work without anything laying eggs under my skin.

Kev, that is precisely why I'm always leaving my drinks in the front room. You never know when you're going to need one to trap a spider.

  1. we sic the cat on spiders. he kills them and then we scoop them up with a tissue. it's pretty effective, and keeps him entertained. :]

  2. You are awesome. When they surprise me like that, I can't think straight. Plus, I would have killed it for sure.

  3. That's too funny. I always catch them and release them outside. They're good for the garden!
