4 Simple Goals -- Narnia completed

I finished reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on Sunday. Lovely book. In this case, I enjoyed being able to picture the movie scenes as I read the book.

Part of my goal is not only to read new books, but to read them slowly. I have developed an extremely frustrating habit of zipping right through a book and then forgetting half of it. I took my time with book two of Narnia and forced myself to read it in 10-minute increments while nursing Penny.

I've also been reading The Other Side of Heaven because Kev picked it up from an abandoned rental at work. It's been my "bedside" book so I would pace myself with Narnia. Heaven is an autobiography by John Groberg and it chronicles his LDS mission experiences in Tonga in the 50s. Coincidentally, the week I started reading the book, the movie was on TV so Kev and I watched it. I was so proud of myself for having read the book slowly enough to see the slight differences between it and the movie. I'm gradually changing my bad reading habits. Woo!

Next up will be The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls for my book club (did you know I started one? Yup. You are welcome to join the Facebook group and read with us!). Although I majored in English, I actually dislike discussing themes of literature. I just want to read a book and get lost in the story rather than analyze the author or style. Hopefully we can all get what we want out of the gatherings (like eating lots of snacks!).

I'm so glad I'm sticking with these goals. Having just four makes them less intimidating, and sharing them on the blog keeps me motivated.

How are your simple goals coming along?

  1. Are you going to read the rest of the books in the Narnia series? Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite of the books! It has tons of Gospel themes in it.

  2. I've already started reading book 3! My friend has the whole series so I'm definitely going to continue working my way through them all.
