Penny for your thoughts, Month 3

Aspen-

Right as we entered your third month, you learned how fun peek-a-boo is! We were so excited to show Kev when he got home. Later that night, when I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed, I heard Kev playing with you and laughing at your reaction. It was so wonderful!

You're also much more aware of your fingers now. I can't help but let you casually suck your fingers a little bit; it's so freakin' cute. We'll see how cute it is when you're still a thumb-sucker at age 13. Don't hate me when you have to sleep with socks on your hands to break the habit.

You took your first trip to the library and we got a free copy of "Goodnight Moon." When you were born, the hospital gave me a coupon and I made the executive decision that you'd like "Goodnight Moon" instead of something about a brown bear or the itsy bitsy spider. The same weekend, we spent the night at Seth's house. Your very first sleepover! You didn't have any trouble sleeping through the night in your pack 'n play and it was fantastic.

Henny-Penny, you are a wonderful baby. Now that Mama gets sleep at night, I can truly appreciate how fantastic you are. I appreciate your temperment (just like your Dad's!) and your smiles and your wide, blue eyes... I really really appreciate every little thing about your little self. It was difficult to see those things when I was sleep-deprived and hormonal, but it's better now. It's also helpful that you are content to hang out sometimes without me entertaining you; you'll talk to yourself and swing your arms around and it makes it easier for me to get things done around the house. One day I cleaned out my walk-in closet AND organized the kitchen pantry. That's my idea of a good time.

Here's a synopsis of other major accomplishments in your third month:

-you had your first major blowout when I was babysitting our friends and it was wicked tricky to clean the poop off YOUR NECK while simultaneously ensuring the other kids didn't get into mischief
-you still like to sleep anywhere from 5-7 hours straight at night and then go back to sleep for a couple more hours after a good feeding
-I went a little crazy with the photos this month because you're so reactive to my faces and tickles (but your East coast Grandparents are thrilled with all the photos since they miss you so much!)
-we all learned the hard way that Mama can't eat enchiladas while breastfeeding
-you, Maddie and I took lots of walks together since Maddie does so much better on leash now
-the Bumbo made its debut and you didn't like it much at first
-you survived your 2-month immunizations and did a great job maintaining your happy temperment!
-you went to IKEA for the first time and bought cinnamon buns with me and your Aunt Julia
-your hands are now finding each other and you hold them together in such a cute way I have to resist eating them
One last shout-out to you for sleeping like a champ these days. You're really doing Mama a solid by letting her sleep so much.

All my love (except the parts reserved for Maddie and Daddy),

-Mama

  1. Don't get too used to the sleep, just when I got used to Milo sleeping through the night, it changed again. Boo.

  2. i am completely in awe that she'll sleep that long so young! it seems so foreign to me, since it took wy another like, 4 months to do that. gives me some serious hope! and while at someone's house?! that's serious.

    i can't believe it's been 3 months!! she's just a doll.
