4 Simple Goals - Reading

I feel like this goal is getting the most attention. But it makes sense, since I've always loved to read. I remember using the glow of my red, digital clock to read when I was in elementary school. I couldn't keep myself from reading after "lights out," so I devised a way to do it inconspicuously. NERD.

Lately I've been reading a number of books, some good and some awful. I started a book that Kev found and could tell it was horribly written about 2 pages in. In fact, it's so lame I don't even remember the title or author and I don't care to get up and go check. I kept trying to read it until I got something better- "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. Melissa (how can I keep all the "Melissas" I know straight?!) bought it for me since I've been reading (her copies) of Narnia and she realized I hadn't yet read anything else by Lewis. It's a deep-thinking book for me, so I'm taking it extremely slowly. But I love it so far. Melissa and some of her friends are reading it as part of a Christian-based book club that I'm going to try participating with. I'm glad because I'd love to hear other readers' takes on this book.

I'm also reading "American Pie" by Michael Lee West. It's not my favorite of hers, but it's a fun read. West mainly writes novels telling tales of Southern women. It's a completely different world to me.

I finished "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls and I'm looking forward to meeting in December with my book club to discuss it. I may have to breeze over some chapters again before then so I can refresh my memory. I tried to take down some notes as I read, but I couldn't keep up with myself!

I also checked out two other Lewis books from the library but I don't think I'm going to have enough time to finish them before they're due. I'm going to have to break my habit of taking multiple books home with me since I can't devote hours on end to reading like I did before Aspen was born.

Overall, I'm thrilled with this goal. It's been wonderful to read while nursing Aspen, or to take half an hour and read before bed. I do miss being able to spend an entire Saturday reading on the couch, but I can accept that caring for a little human is probably more rewarding.
