More proof I'm not the only parent who isn't perfect.

In addition to leaving a very honest, open and encouraging comment on my blog last week, this week Abby sent me a link to an NPR article touching upon the subject of parenthood and how too many parents feel pressure to supress how they feel during the tough times.

Yes, it can be a good coping mechanism to push away the frustration, the fatigue, and the blues. Sometimes if we overlook those feelings, we come out on top. Other times, however, those feelings get bottled up over a long enough period of time and we find ourselves crying over spilled milk because it's simply the last straw.

I enjoyed Greenblat's article immensely. But I want you to know that before I read it, I spent about 10 minutes sitting on the floor, with Aspen in my lap, reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." And I loved reading it a gazillion times for her. And letting her poke her little finger in the food holes to turn the pages. And even though I'm running on about 8 hours of sleep this week, I do appreciate my daughter and the miracle she is.

But that doesn't change the fact that there are hard moments that really get me down in parenthood. Kev reminds me it isn't supposed to be easy, and articles like this remind me that I'm not alone.

Thank you, Abby, for sharing so much with me recently. It has helped me feel better about my short-comings.

  1. Here is what I love about your blog-it is real. You tell things as they are without the mormon sugarcoating a lot of us tend to use. What I love about our gospel is that it teaches us there is opposition in all things, and without the trials we would never know the joy. I have to remind myself a lot about that concept. I hate that motherhood is hard for you but I love that you are willing to share your trials with the world. I do not love babies, I hate being pregnant but I love my kids. How do you explain that to someone else who doesn't feel the same? Thanks for your honesty!
