The morning my snooze button was almost my demise.

I teach some early-morning classes during the week, and this morning I almost didn't.

To make up for waking before the sun, I set my alarm for earlier than is necessary, just so I can enjoy hitting the snooze button about 98 times. Do you do that? I can't decide if it's better to have interrupted sleep with the snooze or to set the alarm for later and sleep straight through. Either way, getting up before 8am is hard for me. Which is weird because I used to work every morning at 7:45.

Anyway, the point of my story is that this morning I woke up freaking out because I overslept and was supposed to be at the gym in FIVE MINUTES. What can you even do in a situation like that? Teleport? Turn back time?

I'll tell you what I did. I flew out of bed, changed my clothes, peed, washed my hands, put on deodorant and did my hair in the car. I hit green lights the entire drive (THANK YOU TRAFFIC GODS!) and ran full out from my car to the gym, flying down three flights of stairs and making it to class just as people started showing up. I missed my early clock-in window, but at least I was there before the actual start time.

Wanna know how this gets better (because you better believe it does!)? I parked within the WSU campus without a pass and I didn't get a ticket. I get a ticked for sneezing in the general direction of the campus, but today I DIDN'T GET A TICKET. Hallelujah and praises be.

Oh, and class was awesome, too. I had an exceptionally strong and flexible student this morning and I practically made her do bird of paradise. It was beautiful to see her hold that posture. It was like having a life-sized Yoga Barbie.


  1. Wow glad you made it on time & didnt get a parking ticket! I have a hard time getting up for work too guess thats what happens when you rely on your kid as your alarm clock. Bailee is usually up by 8 & on Sunday she slept until 8:40 well guess what we all did so we missed the first part of church.

  2. I used to push the snooze button at least 3 times (30 minutes) before I woke up. Now I have to wake up at 4:30 am and if I push snooze I am much I get up as soon as it goes I vote for getting more uninterrupted sleep :)

  3. I totally used to do that. I thought it was easier to do that than just jump out of bed. I don't think I would be able to just jump out of bed anyways. I only do that when I have over slept and am late, just like you did. That is awesome that you hit all red lights and no ticket. You were totally being looked out for there. I always hit red lights when I am running behind.
