An alternative to ice cream

Look, we all know I have a serious problem with ice cream. When I was pregnant with Aspen, I literally prayed I would not develop gestational diabetes so I could keep eating a bowl of ice cream EVERY SINGLE DAY for the rest of my pregnancy (it was a really really hot fat summer). When I was in high school I was diagnosed with cold-induced-hives. Which means that whenever I touched/ate/felt something cold, I got hives. Big, red, itchy hives. Both inside my body and out. That did not stop me from eating ice cream (even when my throat swelled up). When I developed a lactose-intolerance last year, I started eating like, a hundred lactaid pills in order to just eat one serving of ice cream without getting nauseous/diarrhea/gas/dead.

But all that hoop-jumping is getting old. A few minutes of enjoying ice cream is not worth the discomfort afterward. So I was really really happy when I found a simple alternative online. It's not exactly ice cream, but in a pinch it's awesome.

1 sliced, frozen banana
1 T peanut butter
2 T cocoa powder

In a food processor, puree the frozen, sliced banana until smooth and creamy. Add the PB and cocoa and continue to mix. You can freeze it again for a little more chill, or just eat it straight out of the food processor like I did.

It will have a strong banana taste, but with the PB, it's so good. All three flavors were meant for each other. And for my taste buds.

*Also wonderful are the lactose-free options at Farr's Fresh in Riverdale. And, of course, sorbet. THANK YOU, SORBET!!!!!
