I'm a little caterpillar, fuzzy and green

Aspen and I go to the Library every week for Discovery Time (and new Signing Time videos). For three weeks, she had The Very Hungry Caterpillar and I read it to her before every nap (and Kev read it to her before bedtime). Not only did I have to read it to her, but I had to make up a song about a caterpillar (stealing lyrics from some video somewhere) and let her sleep with the book.

Our little friend Milo is having a birthday this month and his mom, SueAnn, sent us an invite with none other than the Very Hungry Caterpillar as the star. Aspen. About. Died. "CATAPILLA CATAPILLA CATAPILLA!"
Since nap time followed the delivery of the invitation, we sang my made-up song about CATAPILLA and then tucked them both into bed. When she awoke, she fished CATAPILLA out from under the blankets, shoved him back under the blankets, and then laid down on him. For. Ever.

She has this thing about calling for Mama or Dada or Maddie when she wakes up, and then insisting that she still lay in her crib while we hang around her room, waiting for her royal majesty to be ready to officially get up. So I sat in her nursing chair and sang that stupid made-up song 100 times and just enjoyed watching her play with it/fake sleep on it.

Thank you, SueAnn, for replacing the library's copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar with an actual caterpillar that Aspen can hug. I'm sure it's much more snuggly than the book.

  1. I am so glad she likes him!! I am excited for the party too, she will have a blast! It sounds like she is much nicer to her caterpillar than Milo, he tries to rip the eyes off after about 5 minutes.
