It is your birthday.

I wanted to do something AMAZING for Kev's birthday. All he asked for was a robe. Super-exciting, right? So yes, I did get him a robe (apparently Aspen told him about it the day we bought it) but I also needed to make/buy/do a surprise that would beat all surprises.

I read on Ashley's blog about the gift she created for her husband, and it sounded like the perfect idea. So I started mass-emailing and texting all our friends and family, giving them two weeks to get back to me with a nice thought or memory about Kev.

I compiled more than 30 sweet thoughts in a Shutterfly book- which was actually free because I received a coupon while shopping at Target a few weeks ago. It just came together so wonderfully.

As I read through the submissions, I was doing fine. That is, until I received a message from my old friend Jon, who was also Kev's landlord-turned-friend when we were all in college.

Oh it just made me cry. Jon was such a constant part of my life and Kev's for so many years before being grown-up and busy got in the way of always hanging out and going on adventures together. Had Kev not moved into Jon's house, I don't know that I would have met him when I did. So, reading Jon's words about Kev just brought back so many fond memories and all those wonderful happy feelings associated with getting to know Kev.

I'm not supposed to share how Kev reacted while reading his book, but let's just say it was the exact reaction I hoped for.

Kev, I love you. So much. More than I can say alone. Which is why I'm glad I was able to get so many other people to say it too. Happy Birthday!

  1. What a great idea! I'm sure it's something he'll treasure forever. Happy Birthday Kevin.

  2. I'm so glad he loved it. That is such a great idea. Kevin really is one of the coolest guys alive. You are a lucky woman.

  3. What a great idea. I may have to steal this idea for Andrew's 30th. I have a little while. Until June to be exact. So I will get on it. Thanks for sharing. BTW: Andrew and I do not do Christmas for one another either, but we tend to give our boys a little too much so this year we are trying to pull back the ropes. Jesse's birthday is two weeks before Chrismas and mine is six days before so we spend a lot of money that month.

  4. what a beautiful and thoughtful gift, i'm sure he loved it!

  5. It was so awesome!! I highly recommend you do this for someone you love. It hardly takes any effort, and you can create any kind of "book" you want. Even if it's just notes all compiled in a binder.

  6. What a wonderful, sweet and thoughtful present!!! I'm sure he loved it!

  7. I might also copy this.. But I will definitely cite my source. You are so sweet and thoughtful. I love how much Kevin loved it. And I caught a glimpse of Jon's post. How sweet!!!

Thanks for stopping by!
