Disclosure: I have been compensated for my participation in this BlogHer Book Club discussion, but the opinions expressed are 100% my own.
When I received an email from BlogHer about Ally Condie's upcoming book being next up for review, I knew I had to get accepted for the campaign. I was so thrilled to make the cut because I've heard great things about her writing, and have yet to get anything of hers from the library. I was surprised to find out she's actually based in Utah, too. So all the more reason to like her, right? Support local?

Matched turned out to be a quick read; mostly because I couldn't put it down. It seemed familiar to me, and I realized it's a lot like the Uglies/Pretties/Specials trilogy by Scott Westerfeld, and it's also similar to The Giver.

As I read, I grew to love Cassia, and her determination to have a better quality of life. Isn't that something we all strive to achieve? Of course, we don't have the restrictions of "The Society" to dictate our every move (even when we die), so our struggles are a little different from Cassia's. I rooted for her as she began to understand love, and how we have so much to give to others.

There's an element of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, so if you like those genres you should be smitten with Matched. I'm almost mad that it's part of a trilogy itself because that means I have to be patient to finish the whole story. But finish it, I will! The final book in the series comes out next month, so I'll be getting my hands on book two to keep me busy until then.
