Liebster Award

If you haven't noticed, I've been posting more than usual lately. This month is NaBloPoMo, aka National Blog Posting Month. The goal is to post every day for a month, so I'm taking a crack at it for the fifth year in a row. Thankfully, I have a little help with today's content since I was tagged by Stories of Kel to answer a few questions.

First, 11 things about me:
1. I was born and raised in Maine for the first eight years of my life. Then my family moved to Utah until I was 14. Then my family moved back to Maine and I went to HS in the same town I grew up in. Then I graduated and moved back to Utah for college (I DID NOT GO TO BYU THANKYOUVERYMUCH) and I've been here ever since.
2. Until Aspen was born, I didn't mind only going back to Maine to see my parents only once a year or so. Now I wish we could go every couple of months to see them.
3. Many people won't believe this, but I was a cheerleader in HS for three years. And by default, I was captain my senior year. It's really weird.
4. I'm still allergic to the cold.
5. Last year I developed lactose-intolerance and I recently triumphed over some of the obstacles it presents by taking probiotics. Hello, fun-sized candy bars!
6. I'd like to try having another baby, but my experience with post-partum depression the first time makes it difficult for me to believe I could emotionally survive the newborn stage again.
7. In a good week, I can read at least three books. Aspen and I go to the library every week to stock up.
8. Kev and I both really miss Ogden (having both lived there more than 10 years) and I'm not sure about him, but I have secret hopes of living there again some day.
9. I have the worst sense of direction possible in a human being. Even living in Utah, where most of the cities are built on a grid, I can barely figure out how to get out of my driveway without getting lost.
10. I used to do theater when I was young, and while I sometimes miss it, I'm glad I didn't do it in college because Kev hates "theater people" and all their fake drama (I say that having been one of those people) and he never would have dated me. So... I'm okay I gave up theater because it means I got Kev instead.
11. My younger sister is still serving her mission in Chile and I try not to think about her not being here for the holidays because it makes me cry. Last year I almost didn't put up the Christmas tree at my house because she wasn't here to help me (thanks Melissa for taking her place!).

Why do you blog?
I blog to remember. I blog so I can write. I blog because I make my blog into a physical book every year and it serves as a family record. I also blog to meet new people and to stay in touch with loved ones I may not see as often as I'd like.

Who do you look up to most?
This one is too hard- different people for different reasons.

What is your profession?
I spent six years working in Property Management, and I quit working full-time in July 2010 to have Aspen. After she was born, I resumed teaching Pilates/Yoga part-time and am only taking a break now because we moved to West Jordan and I haven't yet found an opportunity to continue teaching.

What talent do you wish you had?
I wish I had never quit taking piano lessons.

What is the best Christmas gift you have ever received?
Really, anything that was thoughtful. It could range from a gift card to my favorite store, to the audio-recording my parents did of my Grandpa reflecting on his life.

What motivates you?
I always want to be a better person for my family.

What is your favorite food?
I love Chinese food (and before I became lactose-intolerant, ICE CREAM was my favorite food).

What is your favorite event in the Olympics?
I didn't watch any of the Olympics in real-time this year, but when I caught up on-demand, I cried while watching the gymnastics routines. They always get me!

What is your favorite form of social media?
It's safe to say I'm a Facebook addict.

Favorite style of music/band?
It would be impossible to pick one favorite style (I'm married to a former radio DJ!) but some of my absolute favorites are Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Adele, Dashboard Confessional, Anathema, Mumford and Sons, Ben Folds, Ben Kweller, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Coldplay... ok I should stop now.

Night owl or early bird?
I'm a little of both. Some nights I like to stay up late reading or catching up on shows. Other nights I'm in bed early so the next day I can get up and exercise before Aspen is awake. I used to teach early-morning Yoga, and I loved those quiet mornings.

    2. It was fun learning more about you! I'm sad you didn't make it to the dessert social too! Don't feel bad though, even Jenny couldn't come and she helped plan it! Haha. Dang wish I would have known about national blog posting month sooner!
