Nothing a little duct tape can't fix.

I couldn't pinpoint the sound, but as we drove along I15 I reached across the front seat and tried rolling up the passenger window again. After adjusting the window, I could still hear air ripping through something, but I chalked it up to me being in the Tercel again after a couple of weeks in the Honda. I needed some time to get used to the sounds of the small car again.

Minutes later, I was convinced my tire had blown. There was a huge commotion on the passenger side of the car so I immediately put my blinker on and cruised to the side of the Interstate. It was clear on my left, of course, so I quickly parked outside the carpool lane in the shoulder.

Aspen asked me what happened and I told her I was going to get out of the car to check. I peeked around the side of the car and saw what I thought was a huge chunk of my front-passenger-side tire hanging off the side of the car.

Turns out it was actually the lining of the wheel well, and there was no damage to the tire itself. I couldn't have been more relieved. I wiggled the rest of the lining off the car and shoved it in the truck. I got back in my seat and called Kev, starting the conversation with the classic, "Everything's okay but..." I told him part of the car had fallen off while I was going 70mph on the Interstate but that I didn't lose it. And I meant that, literally, I didn't lose the piece of the car.

Once I determined everything was good to go, I slipped back into traffic and we proceeded up to Ogden for a birthday party to see old friends.

We weren't going to let a little car trouble keep us from cake and ice cream, especially since I'd talked it up to Aspen ALL MORNING in order to get her to stop having tantrums. She wasn't the only one looking forward to hanging out with friends, either. I really wanted to catch up with some of our old crew and be around familiar faces again.

It was a great little get-together and Aspen was so proud and happy to give Layla her present. I hope we can keep working on making more good friends down here in SL County so she can be with kids her age more often.
