See Jane Read

A few weeks ago, local blogger/writer C. Jane Kendrick put out a call on her Facebook page for life story posts. She did a series of posts on her own blog (READ HERE) that summarized her life and shared her story with her readers.

When she started those blog posts, it helped motivate me to do my own last year. And when CJane asked her FB friends to link up, I decided to go for it. I didn't know what she'd do with the posts besides read them, so I submitted my life story posts with hesitation. I was so nervous to have someone with a lot of background in writing/publishing (she's also a Deseret News columnist) read my stuff and possibly have a response to it.

I waited all afternoon for her to make a follow up comment to the initial post on Facebook. Whether it be a response to the individuals who linked up or a greater explanation of what she wanted them for... it didn't matter to me. Just anything to let me know she'd actually taken the time to read what I wrote.

My anxiety was definitely rewarded when CJane eventually posted the following:

It was so exciting to see her personal response to me. She has been reading the stories of others lately and generating little tips for those who want to share their stories on their blogs.

I don't get a lot of feedback for this blog, which can be both good and bad. I'm grateful that so many people are reading, but every now and then I need that little boost to keep going. I was like that in college, too. I had one English professor (I took a class from him at least once a year for five years (YES IT TOOK ME FIVE YEARS TO GRADUATE)) who never gave feedback on our papers. I always got an "A," but I never had any indication as to why. I'm not exactly complaining that I was guaranteed a good grade in his classes, but it would have been nice to have an actual response to my work.

So, CJane, thanks for reading. And thanks to all of you who are also coming along this journey with me.
