Weekly zoo date

Amanda bought a Hogle Zoo pass and we got lucky because her husband suggested she put me as the second adult on it. So for a fraction of the price I'm splitting the pass with her and it's awesome. Except for the fact that it's hotter than Hades this summer.

We'd be hot sitting in our house, anyway. So why not at least be doing something fun while melting? That's my philosophy this summer. And yes, I'm sorry, I love the giraffes so much. LOVE THEM. It'll be nice when their new habitat is built because this current one is super-depressing.

When we went inside the building for viewing the sea lions and polar bear, all Aspen wanted to do was touch the glass opposite this snail. Seriously. A snail. So we stood there for a good five minutes and I let her pretend poke that snail to her heart's content. Standing in an air conditioned building is not something I'm going to complain about!

It's so awesome that every time we've been to the zoo, the polar bear puts on a show. He's always swimming and jumping and being freakishly adorable. Wish I could say the same for the other poor animals who are baking in the sun all day. The monkeys ain't got much goin' on other than simply trying to survive the heat.

After a couple of hours I was spent, so we made our way back up the hill to our car. But on the way I spotted an ICEE stand and I couldn't resist the temptation. Before you judge me for spending $$$ on a slurpee, please note that it was almost 100 degrees and the middle of the afternoon. Water wasn't cutting it, my friends.

Plus, LOOK AT THAT FACE. Totally worth it.

  1. I can't wait to go to the zoo! What a great idea to split the price of a zoo membership. I'm sure it's gonna be hot even going right when it opens but hopefully it's fun nonetheless :) you can bring your own food, snacks, drinks etc right?

  2. Yes, and they have lots of areas where you can eat- picnic tables, tables with umbrellas or even just benches in the shade.

    It's going to be fun!

  3. Poor monkeys! I'm with ya on the icee. Yum! I wish I could somehow find a way to keep Popsicles in the car so we could have ready when we get in to our HOT black car.
