Spring Fever

Last week Maren asked if I wanted their play house since they've recently relocated and didn't want to move this with them. All we have in the backyard is a swing in the apple tree, and while it's fun to push Aspen on that for 30 minutes at a time, I thought something that doesn't require me to stand up would be a nice addition (HAHAHAHAHA!).

So I told Maren I'd check with Kev to make sure we were on the same page about what we'd like to put in our yard. I ended up walking over to her house to refresh my memory and take some photos for Kev. While I was getting things ready for a Relief Society activity later that night, Kev took his truck over over work and just loaded up the whole thing himself and brought it home. So that settled the matter!

On Saturday I hauled it into the backyard and checked it out. Maren said they couldn't get the slide to attach any more since it's warped from the sun... but I still thought I'd see if I could assemble the thing myself. After a while Aspen stopped riding around in her police car and she walked over to my project.

"Maybe you should ask Daddy."

Ya think? My grunting and huffing must have tipped her off. Even using my full body weight (with extra pregnancy pounds!) I couldn't get the pieces to slide together. So I settled for moving it to the spot I thought it would fit, and telling Aspen we'd wait for Daddy to be done with his inside project before assembling it together. It was at this moment, of course, that he was getting gum out of his truck and Aspen told him he had to put her play house together.

Oh well, I tried to spare him.

Using a 2x4 scrap as a hammer, Kev managed to not only get the pieces aligned and prepped for the final assembly, but he got the slide and the interior platform to fit into place. He's just the best ever. We got the whole thing put together and situated in the shade of the pines and then we realized  Aspen doesn't remember how to use a ladder. She couldn't figure out how to get up to the platform inside in order to go down the slide. It was hilarious trying to teach her how to climb. I think we really need winter temps to be over so she can relearn how to use a playground.

I'm sure the neighbors are just as relieved as I am that Aspen has something besides her swing to play with. Before Kev got the play house all set up, I'd been pushing her on the swing between raking up apples and cleaning up dog poop. Every time I pushed her she screamed at the top of her lungs and proclaimed that playing outside is "THE BEST THING EVER MORE THAN BEING INSIDE!" The play house doesn't elicit quite the same caliber of screaming.

You're welcome, neighborhood.

  1. Yea! All my kids have wanted to do the past few days is GO OUTSIDE! Let's face it. It's all I have wanted to do too!

    1. At work yesterday I took the kids out for about an hour, and when Aspen and I got home we spent over two more hours in the backyard! I finally had to tell her it was time for me to lay down on the couch and she could stay outside as long as she wanted. I LOVE THIS WEATHER.

  2. Nice addition in your backyard for Aspen and you :)

  3. Yay for getting some more outside play time! I'm glad the weather has been nice for you guys there. Logan would spend all day outside if I'd let him. I wish we had a nice fenced in yard that I could just send him out to. Lol!

Thanks for stopping by!
