Safari Kiwi Crate

We got our second Kiwi Crate this week and it was perfect timing. Aspen was depressed after having a friend over in the morning, and none of our other plans were helping to buoy her up (I know I'd be pretty psyched to get a free lollipop at the bank but whatevrrrr). We did have some success finding fun at the library, but then Aspen accidentally jumped on a stair and landed directly on her tailbone and that was pretty much a buzz kill. I was grateful that we had a box full of surprises waiting for us at home so I could console her not only with hugs, but with a project to take her mind off the discomfort.

This month's box is Safari-themed, and it was a lot of fun to work on some of the projects with Aspen. I'm trying to be really uninvolved so she can use her own creativity to the fullest extent, and I think we did pretty well with this! Aspen punched out the cardboard animals, put the stamps together, and then proceeded to decorate all by herself.

Then we read the animal info cards together and I even let her go to town with the kid-scissors to cut out some other pop-up friends that came in the crate.

I dunno... I'm just still really freaked out by scissors. But I feel like I have to let her practice so she's not that sad kid in preschool/kindergarten who has no idea how to even hold scissors, let alone use them successfully.

With the crate, I try to keep her from going crazy and doing ALL THE PROJECTS in one sitting. Included in this is a little jeep that can be put together like the animals and I convinced Aspen to hold off until Kev can help her with that one. There's also some direction for turning the crate itself into the African Safari, and I think that will be a lot of fun, too. Plus it will serve as super-convenient storage for all the little animals she stamped.

So, until I let Aspen tackle the other projects, there you have our adventures with this month's Kiwi Crate. It's definitely lots of fun.

You can also find me on:

  1. Guessing this is similar to birch box was it!?! But for toddlers? How much a month? I think it sounds fun to get a box of fun new treasures each month.

    1. You can just purchase monthly for $19.95, or do a subscription. I did the three-month with a promotion that gave me a discount, but it's regularly $60 for three. There are also sibling add-ons you can do so there are a few more supplies for more than one child. It has been a lot of fun! You can get $10 off using this referral:

  2. So cute! What a great boredom buster for little ones! xoxo
